Summer's Warmth and How the Forest Feels

Location: Registrants will be informed of location
Docent: Brian Morgan
Summer weather on the Fiscalini Ranch Preserve is usually cool and foggy. Late Summer and early Fall, with crisp mornings and delightfully sunny days, will show itself in August and September. Beautiful clear blue skies, framed by towering native Monterey pines and spreading coastal oaks, become a playground in the sky for teetering turkey vultures (and just maybe - a soaring condor or two), noisy red shouldered hawks, and curious towhees. Who is that? Oh...a protective scrub jay, chattering to have us keep our distance. Is it from that nest - perhaps filled with chicks? Or is that nest a home for arboreal grey squirrels -a pleasant place to rest after a day of acorn harvesting. Enjoy each twist and turn of our forest trails as you "Notice What You Notice" and share your adventures with your newfound walk friends. Let others know when you see something that you've never seen before. Share your discoveries. They will only add to your naturalist guide's observations!
This walk is approximately 2 1/2 miles with little elevation. You might consider wearing long pants to protect again poison oak. Children welcome with adult supervision. No dogs please. Please be aware that there are no restrooms in the Ranch forest so plan accordingly! Rain cancels.
