The Helping Hand from the Deep Sea (Sunday walk)
Location: Registrants will be informed of location
Docent: Gil Eastman
The currents are changing! The California Current is moving closer to shore, bringing an upwelling of nutrients, diatoms, and plankton. This upwelling supports almost all open-ocean life along the Central Coast. The tide-pools and kelp forests are rebuilding. The air above the cold ocean currents mixes with the warmer coastal air, and fog is formed bringing much needed moisture to support the growth cycles of the plants, flowers, and grasses of the bluff (as well as the pines of our forest). The bluff flora is energized again to grow and provide for the insects, reptiles, birds, and mammals of the spectacular Fiscalini Preserve.
Let’s check it out. This is an easy two-mile, two-hour docent led stroll along the beautiful Ocean Bluff Trail. Bring water and binoculars, if you have them. No dogs, rain cancels. Children free to attend with adult supervision. Remember, there are no restrooms on the Ranch so plan accordingly!
